TEENAGE SUMMER (12-16yo)

so summer has finally arrived and school has ended. and ofc, we want that hot girl summer with the perfect body, mindset, habits, holidays, and a great time in general but what if we have sorta strict parents who are just.. parents. so here are some tips to have your dream summer and glow up but also make it family/ teenage friendly!

numero uno: WORKOUT. yes, ofc this is on here, what did u think? work.out. decide why u wanna workout first: healthy body? dream body? abs? being stronger? for happiness? for fun? then, you can find a workout on youtube / pinterest for the one you want. (also what i love doing is the workouts on pinterest where its related to a tv show- or just search up [movie/ show name] workout)

smell nice! perfume, scented shampoos/ body scrubs, etc.

SUNSCREEN. trust me, u DO want to put it on.

skincare! moisturiser, lip gloss/ lip balm, exfoliation, etc.

put cold spoons under your eyes in the morning to reduce puffiness.

u dont like something? fix it! i didn't like my teeth for a while, so i got braces. you can't fix it? stop worrying about it and just give it to god cus u got better things to do

MANIFESTING:

affirmations!! affirmations in the mirror, listening to them, repeating them, thinking them, they helped me SO much!

Believe you’re hot. As simple as that.

Visualisation. Imagine people giving you compliments and staring at you all day long

HAPPINESS. the real glow up starts when you're genuinely happy with who you are and where you are. be a light, carefree, bubbly girl but also remember to set standards and boundaries. when you're just genuinely happy, life truly does start to get better.

thank you!! and im not entirely sure what that entails, but i'll try my best :D

i stray a bit far from canon april, mostly in the way i draw her hairstyles, outfits, and body type (the last is just to suit my style, its not a big translation IMO)

FACIAL FEATURES:

there's a few touchstones im always thinking about when i'm sketching her face out:

how wide her nose is (very important that the edges are past the inner corner of her eyes in most angles)

how full her lips are

how thick her eyebrows are (so they don't have to compete with her glasses)

roundness/heartshape to her face

even with all these features in mind, the way she looks can vary. i'm just always making sure these things are accurate, since most are key to depicting her ethnicity, even in the highly stylized show.

i'm also always checking for the relationship between her eye-whites and skin tone, because if its off, i'd be veering away from representing her deep brown skin accurately.

this very important to be mindful of!! and very easy to check and fix! if you're unsure, find a screenshot with a similar lighting scenario and check the values in black and white.

HAIR TEXTURE:

im always aiming for depicting coils, never curls, since i believe that's the hair type being shown in the show.

there's a lot of ways coils can look, but usually, keeping volume and staying away from single strands works. i wasn't always mindful of this tho (example below) and still am very capable of loosening it, even if it's subconscious. this is almost ALWAYS a simple fix as well.

i've see a lot of art of her hair in particular being very loose. like 2b/2c. guys.

and this problem is hardly addressed!! so i am here to recommend finding references for 4b/4c hair, refs are never bad.

MISC NOTES OF VARYING IMPORTANCE:

her skin is cool toned in most palettes in the show, so i stick with cooler skin for her (tho i mostly use warm palettes so it does get lost)

her red glasses usually salvage her recognizability (i know this because i draw her in different outfits/hairstyles all the time)

^^ green and yellow in her clothes does too.

he would just do his assignments and listen to his music

or looking at the bracelet you wore everyday

mans would be sketching your side profile, not even noticing it until the end of class

at home, him and miles would be talking about their day at school and suddenly they got into the topic of girls

“dude there’s girl in my class and she’s new to visions, she’s amazing, she’s funny and really pretty and-”

miles kept on rambling and rambling about the girl as milo kept scrolling on his phone but still listening to his brother

this was also part of the reason why milo got jealous, miles was always so nice and outgoing with everybody that he had no problem to have a simple convo with anyone

today again, milo tried talking to you but you rushed off to your class, not giving him enough time to say anything

“tomorrow, i’ll talk to her.. eventually..” milo mumbled under his breath as he sighed.

as milo was going to his next class, he then saw you, again, walking with a few friends.

at the end of class, he saw you packing up and begin to leave until he took your wrist.

“t/n? oh, i think you confused me with my twin. did you two talk yesterday?” you asked.

“yeah, actually she thought i was my twin brother, miles, but we have different hair so..” milo trailed off as he realized he was rambling.

as you two were talking in the halls, the two of you also met your siblings.

“y/n!!” your twin ran up to you and gave you a hug.

at the amusement park, miles and milo would pictures of the both of you with the huge stuffed animal they won for you

both miles and milo would look at the picture and suddenly argue

and when you two met their parents, clearly, t/n warmed up to them real quick, being respectful and outgoing at the same time but that didn’t stop them from wanting to get to know you too.

oml there was also this one time where miles and milo invited you and t/n over to just chill at their place

but when you got there, milo was shocked.

HLC REACT TO MC TURNING INTO A HUNGARIAN HORNTAIL

MC still doesn't know the limits of ancient magic, but apparently, it includes being able to transform oneself into a powerful magical beast of their choice for a time. Today, the beast of choice was the ferocious Hungarian Horntail dragon. Admittedly, MC was just showing off.

They show their closest friends and mentor the full transformation and even a fireblast demonstration. Then they sit pretty to soak in the praise. They know they look cool.

SEBASTIAN SALLOW: His jaw was already on the ground when MC transformed, but it somehow got lower when he witnessed the 40ft jet of fire rise from MC's maw. Such POWER. He wants to see MC decimate a dark wizard outpost. Set fire to EVERYTHING!

OMINIS GAUNT: He can feel the rumble of the earth beneath him with every step MC takes. The heat of the flames makes him turn away. Just the low rumble from MC's throat sends shivers down his spine. This is the closest he EVER wants to get to the real thing. Even though he knows it's MC, it's a scary experience.

ANNE SALLOW: She's more collected than her brother, but still as excited over MC's ability to burn everything in their path. Just thinking about what MC could do with a single breath makes her giddy. She's as much a firebug as Sebastian, she's just better at keeping her head.

IMELDA REYES: She is a simple woman with simple interests. See dragon, must race. Fly MC! Show her what you're really made of! Bet she could fly circles around them. Bet they can catch her? Prove it!

NATSAI ONAI: She'll beat Poppy to the punch about asking for rides. The spines make it challenging but she'll figure something out. She grabs MC by the nostrils and gets in their face. "Let me ride you! ...wait, that sounded-... You know what I mean!"

GARRETH WEASLEY: He NEEDS to hear them roar. Dragons are so strong that they don't even need to use fire. A roar from a fully grown dragon at close range can shatter eardrums. You feel the shockwave of sound go through your body. His ears ring for a bit even though he covered them.

LEANDER PREWETT: He's feeling so inadequate as a wizard. He can barely balance on a broom right and MC can transfigure themself into a mother loving DRAGON. No fair...

AMIT THAKKAR: He's dying to know how this works. This is magic that's either never been seen or never recorded, because he's never even heard of anyone capable of this without being some sort of rare animagus. MC needs to be studied, and he's the one to do it. Next to the stars themselves, MC is the universe's greatest mystery.

EVERETT CLOPTON: Dragons scare the ever living shit out of him. They're big, powerful and sometimes go after broom flyers when hungry. Hell admire MC from a distance. Like, way back behind the stoney hill, distant. Please don't come closer, he will cry.

POPPY SWEETING: She's absolutely ECSTATIC! She can examine a powerful dragon up close that isn't trying to eat her. It's a dream come true! She does circles around MC, taking in every detail. She takes out a small, leather bound book and a piece of charcoal and sketches every part MC lets her study. When MC puts their snoot right up against her, she actually squeals a little with excitement. She gets to TOUCH a live dragon. She's on cloud nine and never wants to come down.

ELEAZAR FIG: When MC tells him this is something they could do thanks to ancient magic, the only thing he can think is: "Miriam would have loved to see this." He's so proud. MC is capable of way more than he ever thought. He only hopes to live long enough to witness the rest of the wizarding world realize the same.

In the warm firelit glow of the room, dimly emphasized with orange hues by the setting sun peering in through the windows, Albedo's eyes graze over every inch of your body fervently, he sits stationed behind an easel and canvas where he is painting you. Sketching for him is a hobby that came about from his line of work. It is more often than not that sketching things he frequently studies or needs to understand better benefits his experiments. Painting, however...

Painting is more of a love language.

Albedo sketches whatever interests him, it does not take a long time to do, and it requires little material and effort. With painting, one must really stress the details to bring everything together. He paints things out of appreciation for them. To really see every feature and memorize it all.

Ever since the two of you started dating, the only thing occupying his thoughts is you. Anytime he attempts to pass the time with sketching, you're the first subject matter to advance in his mind. It only makes sense to dedicate hours to an entire full-length portrait of you. You are important to him after all.

The pose he asked you to take is candid and simple, nothing dramatic. However, you had begun to appear restless with frequent unintentional twitches across your figure. He smiles sympathetically.

"Try to focus on your breathing. It will make it easier to hold still."

A slow exhale passes through your lips. Truthfully, remaining motionless for hours is more difficult than you assumed, but you couldn't grow tired of this position you are in. Your lover is not a very affectionate person, at least not physically. He of course never turns you away when you are the one to initiate, but he rarely does so himself. You've realized over time that it isn't because he loves you any less than you love him, but the way Albedo prefers to show his affection is simply exactly what he is doing now. Penetrating through your skin with his gaze, his lips slightly parted and his eyebrows furrowed while he ingests each little characteristic on your body that has built up and brought him you.

"I'm impressed by you, my muse." He teases. "Most people struggle to maintain such a striking demeanor throughout the entirety of the session. I hope you do not mind me taking my time."

"Striking? What do you mean by that?" You hum curiously. He sighs as he struggles to find words for it.

"Some people just look... Posed." He attempts. "But you are naturally scenic... Though perhaps I'm biased. You could do anything and I'd find it devastatingly attractive."

You smile playfully and roll your eyes, realizing he has not actually touched the canvas in a moment.

"Not to rush you, but yes to rush you, I'd like to breathe soon."

Albedo nods.

"I am finished."

Your eyes widen.

"Oh, really?" You prompt, subtly asking for confirmation that you are allowed to move.

He smiles.

"I have been finished for some time. I just wanted an excuse to stare at you a while longer."

You give him an annoyed scoff as a response and immediately stretch your limbs out. The painting had to have taken at least six hours. You saunter over to where he is seated and allow yourself to practically fall into his lap. He gives your forehead a quick kiss as you nestle your head against his shoulder to observe his work on the easel.

"I think it turned out rather well." He states in satisfaction. "Though, I'm not sure the most talented artist alive could do you justice."

You are blown away by how casual he is about what he just put on that blank board you're staring at with your jaw on the ground. It's you, absolutely you. Terrifyingly realistic yet still captured in the most flattering way imaginable.

"It's... Incredible..." You mutter.

"It's a painting." Albedo sighs. "To be honest, I did like the idea of having something for me to look at when you are not around, but at the end of the day, it's still just a painting."

Once again, you're blown away by his indifference as he wraps his arms around you.

"A really good painting." You affirm. "It's very... Good-"

"You are so warm..." He murmurs quietly, seeming to have already moved on. You sigh.

Sometimes it seems Albedo does not give himself the appreciation he deserves, if you squint you'll notice that he doesn't think of himself highly in any regard. Despite his alchemical advancements, he still believes himself to be average at best when it comes to intelligence. Despite his borderline inhuman artistic skills, he does not think his work is anything of note. It makes you sad.

You don't want to bring this up now and potentially spoil the moment, though. You'll get on his case about not knowing how amazing he is later. Albedo is always busy, he is always running back and forth to get something done, but now he is quiet and still as he brushes a hand through your hair.

"Are you tired?" You ask him. He nods slightly.

"It will be dark soon..." Albedo yawned. "I'd prefer not to waste what little day is left by going to sleep early."

Thankfully you speak Albedo, so you know when he says something like that he fully intends to stay up very late, working. You yank away from him to glare in irritation, he laughs.

"I will not stay up all night, love. Promise." He smiles. You hate how adorable his smile is, you're trying to be mad at him.

"If you don't sleep, it will negatively impact my own sleep schedule." You say in an assertive tone of voice. "I cannot sleep if you aren't next to me."

Albedo doesn't seem to fully believe this since you've fallen asleep on your own nearly every day of your life until the two of you moved in together. Nevertheless, he contemplates.

"I will come lay next to you until you fall asleep-"

"No." You cut him off. "Let's go to bed."

He sighs in defeat and picks you up as he stands from the chair.

"Fine, fine." He mumbles, rolling his eyes at your victorious expression. He carries you to bed and collapses beside you instantly. His sluggish behavior warrants a giggle from you.

"I suppose today was longer than I anticipated." He admits, pulling the blankets over the both of you. "Although, I am glad we got to spend some time together towards the end of it."

You shuffle closer to him which brings him to immediately wrap his arms around you, pulling you into his chest with a sigh.

"Are you comfortable enough?" He asks. Something about Albedo is that he never stops fussing over you, he'll probably ask you the same question another twelve times before falling asleep.

"Yes." You respond simply, reaching your hands up to play with his hair. This is the best technique when it comes to shutting Albedo up. His eyes quickly flutter shut at the sensation and you smile.

"Love you Bedo." You profess. His grip around you tightens slightly at your words.

"Love you too..."

hey ! i have a question. it’s about writing fan fiction. i wanted to know, what entails the process of writing? i know everyone’s process is different, but i’ve been meaning to give it a try and i just don’t know where to start, and frankly i don’t have any idea what beta read is or what makes a draft or how to even do it, because i have the ideas and everything but i just don’t know how to do it. do i just open a word document and start? and then what? you are one of my favorite authors and i’m really interested. hope u can answer. thanks !!!

Hi there!

I absolutely love this question and I am going to go a little ham with it, so I apologize.

Writing, like all art forms, takes practice and you have to start with the basics. You can’t expect you’re going to be amazingly happy with your results the first few times, but know you are starting your foundation and as you continue, you’ll learn your style and tricks of the trade.

Now, how to start as a new writer with fanfiction. Fics are a great place to start because we all know the characters and setting and you don’t need to build up the world – you can just go right into the action. A good place to start practicing is a very simple scene, nothing dramatic.  I’m going to use a lot of Drawing analogies, because it might help explain the process easier.

Think of this scene as your warm up sketch. This is just to get your mind going. It does not need to mean anything, you don’t need to share it, it’s just practice. Think of Character A going into a coffee shop to order their morning coffee – they go in, order, wait, get their coffee, and leave. That is a few paragraphs, right?

A good way to start this scene for a new writer would be break into simple actions, like it is a script, so you know what you want. These do not need to be full sentences. It doesn’t need to be poetic. Bare bottom actions to know what you want to happen. You can make it like the following or do bullet points! However you want, you can change it up as well. Nothing is ever set in stone.

Character A: Enters coffee shop. Browse Menu. Pick Coffee. Go to barista.

Barista: “Hi, what can I get you?”

Character A: Orders Coffee. Pays. Go to waiting counter. Waits. Gets coffee. Leaves.

Now we can turn that into sentences. They do not need to be great sentences – again just the bare bones. 

Character A enters Coffee Shop and looks to the menu. After looking over the options, they decide on a latte. They go up to the counter and the Barista says, “Hi, what can I get you?”

“A latte,” Character A says.

The Barista rings them up and they pay. Character A moves to the waiting area. The Barista makes their coffee and brings it to the counter. Character A takes the coffee and leaves.

Now that you have your scene and the foundation, you can build on that.  The actions are very straightforward and a bit boring to read – so lets make it interesting. One of those ways is to break up the beats of the story.  The sentences are all about the same length and tone, and that gets monotonous to read. A good way to change that is to add adjectives and break up sentence length.

Character A runs into the Coffee Shop and hurriedly looks to the menu. They decide on a latte. They go up to the counter and the Barista says, “Hi, what can I get you?”

“A latte,” Character A says instantly.

The Barista rings them up and they pay. Character A quickly moves to the waiting area. The Barista makes their coffee and brings it to the counter. Character A takes the coffee and rushes out.

Those little changes make the scene a little more interesting. A good way to practice is to take that basic scene and rewrite a few times in different tones. Is the character rushing? Are they taking their time? Is it a rainy day? Is it overly hot? You don’t need to explain why they are that way – it doesn’t matter right now. The point is to practice changing things around and finding flow.

It is important to note you always what to Show and not Tell your readers. This means you want to show with the characters actions how they are feeling, not tell us.

Character A is angry. They entered the coffee shop and look at the menu.

Boring.

Character A stomped into the coffee shop and glared at the menu.

Engaging – we can tell the character is upset.

Once you feel comfortable with that, you can move on to your “under drawing”.

Again, a small scene. Maybe add a second character?

A good way to know what this is is to watch a show and see how they do shorter scenes, especially if you can find something similar. There’s tons of scenes of people going into coffee shops.

Take the same steps and just add a little more detail. Build on what you have a play around. It doesn’t need to be perfect. Focus on word flow instead of words – this isn’t the point to get flowery, yet.

A good tip for translating what you see in your head to words is to find a movie that has a novelization. Disney movies are good for this, as the novelizations tend to be shorter. You can watch the scene, then turn around and see how it looks on paper. You learn how actual actions can be translated into words. You can even practice doing just that! Watch a scene from a show or movie, then try to translate it into words the best you can.

But for starting to write, this is what I suggest. Practicing small scenes and getting comfortable with that. Then you can start refining. This is when you break out the thesaurus if you think you used ‘says’ too many times. This is where you add details like what kind of coffee shop they are in, or describe what the barista looks like.

Stories are just scenes on scenes on scenes. Some scenes are longer, some are shorter, but they can all start in that basic script form.

There’s a lot more to it, of course, like POVs and tenses and narration, but it can all be boiled down to the basics.

As for betas and things like that – it is basically an editor. Someone who reads the work after you’ve written a little bit and looks for grammar, spelling, and if they story makes sense. Sometimes we get in our heads and we know what we are talking about, but we haven’t made it very clear to the reader. I personally do not use a beta. I run my work through two different software to check for spelling and grammar. I also edit as I go, using exactly what I said above.

I write out the basic scene then go back in and edit it to be more refined and I do it in small chunks, usually when a scene changes from introspective to action.  

For drafts – this is basically the above bare bones story. First draft is what you have after you’ve done your ‘script’ portion. A good tool as you learn is to have the Draft be in one word document, then keep all your edits in a separate document so you can see the changes you’ve made.  You can just copy and paste the story into different docs as you make big changes. If you get a beta, keep a copy of their notes and make the changes they suggest (IF YOU AGREE WITH THEM, BETAS ARE NOT ALWAYS CORRECT).

 

I hope this is helpful to you. I come from a screen writing background so this is my process. I am sure other writers have different methods! This just happens to be mine. Every writer is different but the basics tend to always be the same.  Please feel free to even take the basic scene I wrote above and play with it.

A few more things I recommend as a starting writer – pick up some children’s novels from the library. Like the very first chapter books and flip through a few to see how things are structured.

Remember, writing is an art and you won’t automatically be good at it. It does take practice, like anything else.

Visual artist use reference – writers can too.

Sometimes visual artists will trace a hand so they can better learn how to better draw it.

Writers can copy a paragraph and reword it to learn flow. As long as you are practicing and not claiming it as your own.

The most important thing is to have fun! It is supposed to be fun, you are sharing a piece of yourself with the world. Learning is fun!

Iterator Styles

I have two main styles for iterators: chibi and humanoid-ish. round head vs oval head with a cheek curve (cheek curve is a staple of my style. was actually against it when drawing iterators with it for the first time, yet it’s become such a signature now XD. I love it a lot huhu). here is an example with my lovely boy Twine (he is not the main antagonist despite his mischievous posings). also!! slim eyes for devious characters, like twine and shadows (and leaves, unwillingly /lore). the two ogs 💛 with their yellow jack-o-lantern faces. theres a phrase i made up a bit ago: you can’t spell wanderer without jack-o-lantern-faced iterator, can you?

got better with posing over the years but im still struggling with fabric and cloaks </3

Slugcat Styles

now for slugcats, its evolved a different way. rather with two stages, they have a few more. when i first discovered rainworld, i had a very simple way of drawing. u heads and 3 fingers and toes, aswell with really odd aggressively-digi legs. and then it evolved when i learned “sketching” (blotting down odd shapes with barely any sense of proportion. balls for the elbows, no line of action, eyeing it and getting anatomy wrong lol) and things got really disproportionate. theres more stages, but i made a few complex and simple examples of my style over the years :]!! maybe i put too much effort into it but it was interesting to figure out!!

theres some timeskips in the big timeline one, and some other arts of mine might showcase style changes a bit better, and this is only my digital gallery, but oh well!!! whats done is done until its undone💥 /ghibli movie reference

How do you choose your shapes and colors, and how do you get cool ideas? Ive been having a hard time only being able to draw straightforward and simple stuff, i dont know how to get cool ideas anymore

umm i dunno! dont really know what you mean by cool either. i dont feel like ive done anything particularly "cool" in anything ive posted here yet but thank you

i choose shapes and colours by being lazy. as a rule i dont sketch before drawing something because otherwise i get bored. so my shapes are just what come naturally. i like simplifying and dont like realism so i dont do it. im not good with colours so i keep them flat and bright. homestuck makes that really easy cause everyones got a colour u dont really need to think about it. i like red so i use it a lot

as for cool ideas um i dunno. just get bored and go insane about something. if you get an idea dont get scared of it. if u think u cant pull it off just go for it anyways. see it thru. dont fall back onto the safety net of drawing simple stuff cause youll just build the habit and get urself more stuck. draw something bad and never show anyone if you hate it but dont let that stop u from drawing it in the first place

or do whatever you want i dont know. this advice is kinda shit

Hello! Some of you may know me from somewhere else, and to that (unless you're a super close friend of years now) I say nay! You do not!

I am a in my 20s concept art/writer hobbyist. I work a full 40 hours with week, sometimes with overtime (so if I'm MIA, that's why!). When I'm not at work though I thoroughly enjoy reading, writing, drawing, playing video games, and hanging out with my family/friends!

Primary requests are in my typical style and can range from concept art to simple illustrations. These requests are actually colored and finished to varying stages just depending on how I'm feeling. i love horror movies and like 90’s -2000’s romcoms, i’ve watched all the classics ofc !! i love cringey disney shows, which is a weird combination. my fav shows though r supernatural, gilmore girls, boy meets world, and stranger things, and my latest obsession is star wars !

i like a lot of music but i don’t listen to country or rap. i like indie/classic rock but at the same time i love one direction and taylor swift. i am pretty into supernatural lore kind of stuff, like creatures and stuff r so interesting to me. i love rocks and astrology type stuff- (im an aries btw ) and i sketch sometimes, i don’t think im too bad at it but i mostly draw flowers and plants. i can’t draw people for the life of me. i’ve been a dancer for years and im mostly into hipop and modern dance bc i suck at ballet .

im pretty quiet and reserved if i don’t know u , but when i’m comfortable w someone i probably seem insane . i do love talking to ppl and i hate being lonely even though i am alone most of the time . ( i feel like alone and lonely r different )

i’m kinda into reading and i love romance and dystopian books and movies , but i wouldn’t say i’m a bookworm bc i go thru phases .

my style is kinda like utah girl if u know what i mean , like wide leg jeans, sweaters, leggings, converse, and i love jewlery. even though i’m not from there . but i love that style i think it’s so cute , and the downtown girl/2000’s aesthetic ! i’ve always wanted that ‘teenage love’ ride or die kind of romance. like fun and playful, but meaningful and sweet. my love language is probably physical touch and words of affirmation!

for physical stuff i’m like medium brunette and i’ve never dyed my hair, and it is pretty long. i have naturally curly/wavy hair too, hazel eyes, freckles, peachy/tan skin, like 5’1 or 5’2 and around like 110 pounds i think (i don’t rlly check)

How to make characters reckognisae despite using stylisation? I’m gld you ask.

Like you would for portrait, you will search for the mort markant and important features in the face. Except this time, instead of going more into detail for them, you simply draw everything else normal in ur style and then take those few features and completely exeragate it. You can go completely nuts if u want. This works with every style. It also helps to asogn your characters specific shapes that you think match them, their face, their body or their personality etc pp. Obv u don’t use them just like that. Depending on your style you might not even use them for your poses sketch. But you can still use tham as a guideline.

A good example however would be Angelo! And Luca (generally Pixar). Ofc these are one of the examples that do it to an extreme amount, and almost always use only ONE of said features but that only makes it easier to understand the principle for beginners.

For instance, you see in the original for example: the ears are usually the same: simple amd round. And if you noticed, the fanarts didn’t bring them out either. and the noses and eyes are fairly similar as well unless they are markant. Gulia and Alberto both have iconic hairstyles which on the other hand were in fact used in the arts. Obviously the clothes were a factor in recognising them here as well bit try to focus on the other parts. Gulias Eybrows and nose are always more important than the rest of her eyes. Obviously theres massimo whose eyes -or well- rather, lack there-of make him recogniseable. But there are a lot of characters like these

, to name one. And in a different style massimo would look like this too if we would only concentrate on that single feature. But masimo has hair, and bigger legs. His style of clothing is also completely different.

It also works if you want to age up characters, make AU’s etc. Not only if tou wanna change styles.

Now an example of how to use this.

Here’s how you go abou drawing Davey Jacobs.

Davey’s face is rather long-ish. His nose hoocked. He has small eyes (especially in comparison) and the distance between them is very small. He is also very tall

Or only half a one: Ranboo:

Obv he doesn’t show his full face but the all of prt we do see is actually markant. They have hooded eyes and wavy eyebrows. The mask can actually BE a feature like in this case. Then of course ranboo is very tall so theres that.

What if the character isn’t from a life action or irl thing in the first place? Trust me. They still have that. This is something every professional does even though stylisation isn’t specifically taught (because it’s different for everyone. You can only teach anatomy) lets do Mr Foot.

Mr foot is always slanky, half bold woth his remaining hair curly and red. His eyes, different to all the other eyes in the show, have a normal size (so theire small) he wears glasses and has a longer, bigger nose, which differentiates him from becky.

Okay let’s step this up one last time. They have different appearances? Actors? Etc? I’m sure your find smt they have in common. If not, are they discibed in a book? If still no: just pick one version lmao. Lets go w Dumbledore

This one is actually quite easy and not “stepped up” but its only so i can explain it better. Usually this makes it harder.

Dumbledore obv always has his grey white beard. He has halfmoon glasses but none of these are actually HIM (i mean, the beard is ig). He is also (almost) always shown as the old man he (is). He has wrinkles. You can show old people by indicating wrinkles on the firehead, under/ next to the eyes or laugh folds. The more the older ofc. Dumbledores eyes are very small but still to nig for his glasses and his lips usually can be barely seen

Did you notice how none of those required a specific style of drawing? Each of these things can be stylised in any way. The rest is un important. As long as you give him those features, the people that know him, will recognise him.

We mostly rely on haircuts for this kind of stuff. But what if you have an Alternate Universe? What if your character gets cancer in a fic? What if they change for any other reason.

If you cant find the soecial feature, try seeing it as if you were actually doing a portrait when looking for them. There you focus on EVERY feature and make them specific. Like the shape of their eyes cor example.

Uou really think ur character has no soecial features? Fine.

You have several options

1 you dont make anything special. This can BE the special feature to make them look different than the rest.

2 you do it like you would do it for portraits, u just choose one or two or three things and instead of making them special, you make them detailed. If possible: detailed as in “inspired by the character and not just the little.” They have blue eyes? Tgey are now NEON BLUE. They have curls? Tgey flow EXACTLY like they do in the original.

Stop drawing realistic. Specially go with existing characters that are fron cartoons or animations etc.

•he asks some of his friends first if they know why exactly it is why you do this, but they just assure him, “oh y/n is always sleepy!” that answer wasn’t good enough for him tho,,

•he finds you in the weirdest spots sleeping too, like this one time where you were just,,, laying on the ground while holding a plant. he watched you for a bit and just shook you up, he def walked you home as you were back on the verge of sleep.

•another time, you were gone for the WHOLE day, everyone was looking for you, poor julie was sobbing as if she lost her kid just already putting up posters of you,, but nope, howdy found you sleeping in one of the cabinets in his shop. how did you even get there?? you got a scolding for sure, how was that even comfy?

•wally took the opportunity to ask you a question, you were just laying your head on a table, again (for what seemed to be the millionth time) on the verge of hitting the hay. he asked you why exactly were you tired 24/7? he didn’t understand! it was just a silly concept to him, sleeping all of the time. even if he tried, he could never sleep with the house on his mind.

•you just simply replied, “why not?” wally hummed in fascination and watched you for the rest of the time you were about to sleep. but you were a bit talkative that day, so whatever came on your mind you talked about it to wally.

•after that wally admired how much you just didn’t care for much, you were just in your own little world.

•he DEFINITELY wanted to paint you too, you had no problem letting him. he just told you to sleep, definitely wasn’t an issue for you.

•he woke you up for,, maybe about a hour or two? and showed you an absolute masterpiece, you just sleeping. you loved it, and put it up on your wall. he still kept sketching and drawing you from time to time, i mean you were just still, a simple person to draw for sure!

•he also makes sure you don’t end up anywhere to crazy to sleep, its like he keeps tabs on you. its like if you were just walking somewhere, he just tugs on your hand and is like, “no, this way, silly!” he’s like a guide, making sure you don’t end up back into the river situation,,

•he totally wouldn’t mind if you laid your head on his shoulder; or anywhere on him honestly. he wouldn’t bat an eye if you leaned on him and just hit snooze. wally will continue talking to whoever, still making sure you’re fine. he’d rather have this than you accidentally sleeping on the roof or somewhere dangerous.

•wally finds himself giggling at the silliest things you do or say. like; why are you talking about hippos all of sudden? weren’t you just asleep?

•if he wants some quiet time to himself but not be completely alone. he def goes to you, maybe it’s because you’re sleepy but you’re just calm half of the time too. he also likes to ask you for suggestions on what to paint or draw next, you just mumble out the most random of things. you’re like a spinning wheel! to him at least,,

•theres always quiet moments between you two, you’re probably just snoring on his bed as he sketches,, well probably you. he always has some sort of art for you, pottery, paintings, whatever he can do, he did it for you.

•he gets all gushy and happy whenever you lean on him as a pillow or something. literally he just wants to grab you and just run away. but he keeps it in as he wraps his arm around you. even so, you can still notice the adoration in his eyes. a whole ass gentleman too, he WILL never move when ur sleeping on him. he shushes some people to, likee shhhh my boo is sleeping.

•to be honest, wally sleeps not so often, he definitely does more now that you help him. but whenever he just can’t close his eyes or anything, he watches you. and how peaceful you are, and he gets confused. how can you sleep so much? waking up to wally staring at you with those big old eyes is both scary yet endearing. you ask him what’s going on with him and hes just like, “you’re so peaceful, can’t help but keep this sight of you all to myself.” wit those big eyes,,

•ack,, okay so he for sure def whispers to you or something whenever you’re tired. he just perks his head to you and just whispers ever so softly, as if you’re already sleeping. even when you’re dead asleep he’ll whisper some stuff. if you’re lucky enough, you’ll probably hear him.

•SPEAKING of whispering and such, he def sings you asleep. as if it was hard enough for you to do so,, but still, legit you LOVE it when he sings to you. his voice is soo soft and listening to it is just, hhhhh, makes you malfunction at times.

•he still finds you at random places too, he quickly picks you up and just wakes you up. he’s all like, “oh, what are you doin here :)?” while ur kinda like ,, “hh”

•to him, you’re just admirable. even if ur sleeping in a not so fancy fashion, he admires how you sleep, even if you wake up all jus cruddy, he’s still looking at you with his big lovey dovey eyes.

•if you have any trouble trying to stay awake he helps you def, tries to at least. if you drink caffeine to help you out with it, he’s all for it. but makes sure you don’t over step it, can’t have his lover too hyper! he also tries to have you have a normal sleep schedule (if you want ofc) but if it doesn’t work than it’s perfectly fine,, you guys will find smth to help you out. ♡︎

synopsis; you’re just concerned about your boyfriend’s issues but it leads to a terrible argument between you two yet you both still long for eachother.

Ever since the arrival of Wednesday Addams in Nevermore and the unfortunate expulsion of Rowan, your boyfriend, Xavier Thorpe had been acting rather, unusual, to say the least.

Yes, he did lose his roommate and he was being tormented by frequent nightmares of a creature — it was enough to make one lose their sanity. Yet today, in particular, he was acting odd.

You noticed that today, he was feeling uncomfortable, bothered by the slightest conversation, as if he were scared. He also was making an attempt to cover his neck either with his collar or hands. You observed that the reason as to why he was hiding his neck was due to the large red scars that were planted on it — worst of all, they were fresh. They looked as if a creature had attacked his neck as it appeared that maybe claws were the cause of it.

You overheard him informing Wednesday that the scars were due to fencing class yet you knew him better than anyone — he wasn’t that careless to get injured so terribly in fencing. It was probably due to another cause.

Eventhough, deep down you knew you shouldn't inquire him about his latest injury something had urged you to question him about it. You wanted to know why he looked and felt so terrified. After all, you were his girlfriend, shouldn't you have a right to know?

Reluctantly, you made your way to his art studio which was an old shed he had cleaned out. You knew he was in it due to the slow hum of the music you could hear from the outside and the small light rays that penetrated out of the shed's windows.

Xavier would visit the shed whenever he was in distress. Lately, he'd been visiting it quite often as he was tortured by all his horrifying dreams and the events occurring in Jericho. The rumours of the creature in the woods weren't helping either.

One, two, three. You knocked thrice onto the door, patiently waiting for the man inside to let you in. After a few moments on waiting, the door finally opened to reveal an anger-stricken Xavier, who leaned against the doorway of the shed.

His palms were coloured in different shades of blue and red, indicating that he was painting. Whereas his eyes were both avoidant of your gaze. He kept glancing at his shoes, not even bothering to greet you — other times, he'd let you in, showing off anything new he had painted.

You broke off the awkward silence with a small cough, 'can I come in?' you lightly asked as you attempted to smile at him. Still not meeting your eyes, he replied with a simple 'sure,' and moved out of the way so that you could enter.

You looked around and were horrified at the sight of the inside of the shed. Nearly every corner was filled with sketches, drawings and paintings of the creature - some scribbled messily while others were decorated in detail. You now knew that his nightmares were only getting worse even with his multiple therapy sessions, he still wasn't getting any better.

'So what do you want?' Xavier asked with no emotion. You turned to look at him after finally tearing your eyes away from the gnarly pictures he had drawn. 'I just wanted to check up on you, see how you're feeling,' you replied, 'I noticed your scars and I wanted to ask you...' you trailed off, unsure of how to continue since you noticed that his expression hardened.

'Why? So you could blame me for all the murders?' he snapped. You had no idea what Xavier could possibly mean by that statement. Did someone blame him? Was that he was feeling so sour?

'No, I don't blame you at all and you know that. I was just here to check up on you and-' before you could finish, you were cut off by Xavier: 'well, I don't need you checking up on me, I'm perfectly fine. Stop pretending like you ever actually cared,' he shouted.

All the worry you had about him left you immediately, you yelled back at him as he yelled at you. You both were shouting back and forth, throwing cruel words at eachother. Until, you had had enough. Your eyes and cheeks were now stained with tears, your lips were bleeding due to you biting them aggressively and you wanted nothing more than to leave.

His harsh words were enough for you to finally leave his shed, filled with rage and sadness. Clearly, he was not feeling alright and took out his anger on you. You were just trying to check up on him, what could've caused him to feel like this?

To be honest, you were angry at him, terribly angry. You stormed into your room, trying to block off any thoughts you had about him. Yet you couldn't since no matter how foolish he acted, you still liked him.

Rave'N was suppose to be a fun and eventful night for any outcast. Well, any outcast except for you. Ever since your argument with Xavier, you didn't bother talking to him, even when he attempted to apologise to you.

You went with your friend and roommate, Yoko and instead of moping over Xavier, you decided to actually enjoy yourself. It was a party after all, you were suppose to enjoy yourself here. The drinks and loud music were finally making you forget all about Xavier.

After a couple of drinks and a few dances with Yoko, you were finally exhausting yourself. Tearing away from Yoko and the dance floor, you finally sat down on a table you presumed to be empty to rest a bit before going back.

'I see you're enjoying yourself here,' a familiar yet unexpecting voice called — the last voice you wanted to hear right now. Sighing, you turned to look at the unwelcomed face of Xavier. You raised your brow, 'So? It's a party,' you replied, not even bothering to pay attention to him.

'Hey listen...' he began as he sat himself next to you. You knew what to expect, for the past few days, Xavier had been attempting to apologise to you for his harsh words yet you didn't bother listening to any of his apologies; most of the time, Yoko would just tell him to leave.

You sighed and turned to look at him, 'you've told me that same apology multiple times but you have to realise that I was really hurt by your words... I was just worried.' This was probably the longest conversation you both had this entire week.

'Xavier, I understand you were hurting back then but I just kinda wished you ta—‘ before you could finish your statement, you got interrupted by a pair of lips on yours.

It was a surprised gesture but you reciprocated it almost immediately; you missed this so much. You’d never admit it but you really did miss Xavier loads. Just by kissing him, all the events of the past few days were lost; you just wanted to be with him.

Once you two pulled apart, Xavier looked at his shoes, avoiding your gaze again — it looked as if he was embarrassed of his actions.

‘I’m really sorry about that, y/n. I shouldn’t have done that,’ he stated apologetically. Deep down, Xavier longed for things to go back to the way they were. He felt upset and he missed you so much.

‘Hey, it’s alright. I’m kinda over it besides, you were just on edge back then; we both said things that we regretted. I understand,’ you gently spoke. Xavier looked at you with hopeful eyes yet he didn’t utter a single word.

The last thing Xavier expected you to do was stand up and offer your hand to his, inviting him onto the dance floor.

‘Come on,’ you said as you happily dragged him to the dance floor.

❤️ Small things that matter part 2

“Hey Sanji, uhm I wanna sketch a little but it’s kind of too noisy outside, is it ok if a sit here?” Asked the curly haired to the Straw Hats cook “Yeah, I don’t see a problem with it as long as you don’t interrupt me” Usopp smiled “Ok then! Thanks a lot! Promise I won’t distract you!”

And so the sniper took his stuff and sat on the dinning table to start his sketches, he passed through some pages and noticed his last drawing a sketch of Nami taking care of her tangerines, doing something she cared a lot about ‘Maybe… since Sanji is here, I could do a little sketch of him while he is cooking’ Usopp thought ‘Though I’m not sure how comfortable he is with that…’Usopp hesitated to start his drawing of the cook ‘Well… it’s not like he’ll see it…’ he ended up doing it anyway, he couldn’t resist it, it was the perfect opportunity, and now that he had the idea he couldn’t get it out of his head, so he started sketching.

Sanji was moving around, but Usopp was good at capturing live moments like he did with Nami, he started drawing the kitchen, he took a peek to make sure the cook didn’t notice him drawing him, he was apparently making some drinks, then he took another look and another and then another, but making sure the blonde wouldn’t notice him, but he wasn’t as slick as he thought he was.

The cook came close to him “What are you drawing?” He asked with a cigarette on his mouth “U-U-Uh nothing!!!!” He said as he hide his sketchbook “Nothing? Hmm, but I did hear your pen, I also noticed you looking my way” ‘Shit!’ Was all the sniper could think “Several times” ‘Shit!’ He thought again.

“Hmm, well, maybe you don’t want me to see what you are drawing, is that it?” The tall man asked “I-“ The cook looked at him as he tried to come up with a lie, at the end he couldn’t so he just said the truth “Y-yeah… you are right, I don’t want you t-to uhm see what I’m drawing…” He said shyly “And why may that be?” The cook asked calmly “Well… Im a little ashamed of it… I really didn’t want you to find out…”

The blonde one took a smoke out of his cigarette as he thought about what Usopp said “Could it be… that you where drawing me?” Usopp’s heart skipped a beat, he was able to read him so easily, the sniper took a big breath before answering in shame “Y-yes” was all that he could reply, he looked down, he couldn’t look at him in the eyes, but to Usopp’s surprise the cook smirked “May I see it?” He asked and Usopp’s heart skipped a beat again “Y-you mean you aren’t mad at me?!” The dark eyed asked “Why would I be?” Answered the blonde “W-well I was drawing you without… without your permission…” He answered shyly “Well I don’t mind” Usopp looked up “For real?” The curly haired asked, the blonde hummed in affirmations “I’m actually honored” He said, and Usopp still couldn’t believe it “Really?!” He said with sparks on his eyes “Yeah, I’m dying to see it, so… are you ok with showing it to me?” Sanji asked calmly “Well… If you want to see it so badly, I can’t deny it from you, specially since I didn’t ask for your permission to do it” Sanji laughed “Well show it to me then!” Usopp nodded.

His sketch wasn’t finished but the basics where there, it just needed a little more detail that he wasn’t able to add because Sanji came to him, he flipped the pages until he got to it “Sooo… here it is! It’s not a big deal! It’s not even finished! It’s just a little sketch” Sanji smiled “Well… I think it’s amazing” Usopp’s heart start beating so fast “R-really?” “Sure thing! I really like it, it feels…” He paused, he seemed to be looking for the right words “Delicate, like a lot of care was put into it, I feel like it captures my essence while I cook, even if to you is just a “simple sketch”, I think you did great, I- I like it a lot” Usopp couldn’t help but blush, he isn’t used to compliments AT ALL, and them coming from Sanji…

“OH! Well pst it was nothing! To the great captain Usopp this things are easy! Besides being an awesome captain and sniper, I am a incredible artist!” He said with pride “Well, the “Great Captain Usopp” was just sweating buckets about this drawing just seconds ago” Usopp raised his finger as if he was going to say something, but he took it down and admitted defeat as he sighed “Heh you got me there” He replied, Sanji smirked.

“Well great captain Usopp, I would love it for you to finish it and maybe let me keep it? After all you did draw me without my permission, is only fair I keep it” Usopp couldn’t argue with that “Oh well, yeah, you can keep it- Wait! Oh I ended up distracting you from cooking! Shooo shooo go back to cooking! And that way I can keep drawing you too!” Sanji laughed “Hey don’t think you can boss me around! Though you are right I should get back to making this drinks” He said as he headed back to the kitchen “As you said they are being pretty loud out there, they might get tired and I’ll have some drinks ready for them” Usopp smiled “Is there one for me?” Sanji’s back was turned on Usopp “Of course there is” He replied and Usopp smiled again, not knowing that Sanji was smiling too as he said it.

The Straw Hats cook went back to work and Usopp to sketching now drawing freely without any fears, this drawing wasn’t for him anymore, it was for Sanji, he was going to work hard on it, at the end the drinks where finished and so was the drawing, Sanji handed Usopp one, before going outside and handing them out for the rest of the crew, Usopp thanked him, when Sanji came back Usopp handed him the drawing and the man praised it with joy, Usopp blushed at the compliments “Next time draw a portrait of me, you can keep that one, but only if you capture my charm” Sanji said and Usopp laughed “I sure will” He answered.

Now only Sanji knows where that sketch Usopp did of him is, but I’m sure it’s somewhere special.
